Throughout the 1930’s and 40’s, glass merchants, Holdens were a leading supplier of glass lens covers for Ever Ready torches. Increased demand for building materials including glass after the war helped sustain growth for the company with Holdens consistently increasing production capacity to meet customer demand.
In 1973 Holdens were one of the first manufacturers to embrace the concept of double glazing, becoming pioneers of the first double glazed sealed units, which they branded SupaSeal.
Holdens SupaSeal Limited was established in 1977 to handle double glazed unit production. However overwhelming demand soon outstripped Holden’s existing capacity and the decision was made to sell Holdens glass merchanting company in1988. This provided the necessary capital to ensure Holdens place at the forefront of the fast developing double glazing market.
New 1,893 m2 premises were secured in Garratts Green and production was automated to increase output in line with customer demand.
Still operated by a fourth generation of the original family, the company has maintained a prominent position in the glazed unit market through customer–led product development, quality standards and high levels of customer service. New products continue to be added to the portfolio including the new SupaSeal energy saving ranges, SupaShade units with integral blinds and SupaSlim units combining energy efficiency with thinner profiles.
